Björn Steiger Foundation

Since 1969, the Björn Steiger Foundation has been committed to the continuous improvement of emergency assistance and rescue services in Germany. It is considered a driving force behind fundamental reforms in the rescue service – from the introduction of the 112 emergency number and the establishment of modern control centres to innovative pilot projects in the field of air rescue and digitalisation. The foundation also supports political decision-making processes and advocates for comprehensive emergency care coverage.

Within the KATPRO network, the foundation contributes its experience from projects such as RescueFly – AI-controlled drone support for water rescues – and AIRCIS – an AI-supported platform for resource planning in the event of extreme weather events caused by climate change. In doing so, it makes a valuable contribution to the further development of intelligent rescue systems.

Core competencies for the network:
System development in rescue services, political interface work, AI-supported operational planning, drone applications in emergency response
